Why was the quarantine period reduced from 21 days to 14 days?

Mpox symptoms usually start between 5 to 21 days after being infected. Isolation precautions are pre-determined at 14 days to allow PUQs to fully rest at home until symptoms (if infected) have appeared. After day 14, the PUQ will become Person-Under-Phone Surveillance (PUPS). In order to return to normalcy earlier, the additional 7-day period was implemented to ensure early detection of symptoms/complications should any appear after completion of the 14-day quarantine period.
