Who will my legal aid lawyer be?

Updated by MLAW

Your legal aid lawyer will either be a lawyer from LAB, or an Assigned Solicitor on LAB's panel of Assigned Solicitors.

Generally, LAB assigns cases to Assigned Solicitors in situations such as the following:

  • There is a conflict of interest, because both parties have applied for legal aid;

  • The case involves a specialised area of law, such as Syariah law or medical negligence; or

  • The case is particularly time-sensitive, e.g. an appeal matter.
