Do I need to be registered with the Legal Services Regulatory Authority ("LSRA") to work as an arbitrator or mediator in Singapore?

A person who acts only as an arbitrator in arbitration proceedings, or as a mediator in a mediation process, in Singapore will not be required to register with the LSRA.

Likewise, an entity comprising individuals who act only as arbitrators and/or mediators will not be required to register with the LSRA. If, however, the individual or entity intends to provide other services that extend beyond the scope of being an arbitrator or mediator, and which will involve the practice of law, such as providing legal advice and/or representing clients, they will be required to register with the LSRA as a lawyer or a law practice entity.

Please note that sections 32, 33 and 35 of the Legal Profession Act are separate from the applicable requirements to be registered or licences with the LSRA.
