Can I be registered as a foreign lawyer if I can only engage in supervised legal practice? When will I be required and/or eligible to register as a foreign lawyer in Singapore?
Foreign-qualified lawyers who wish to provide legal services in or from a law practice in Singapore must be registered with the Legal Services Regulatory Authority ("LSRA").
LSRA only registers an individual who is duly authorised or registered to practise law in a state or territory other than Singapore by a foreign authority having the function conferred by law of authorising or registering persons to practise law in that state or territory. S/he must be qualified to practise independently in their principal jurisdiction and does not hold a restricted practising certificate.
Applications to register a foreign lawyer can only be submitted by a law practice licensed in Singapore.
