How do I identify or recognise a possible SMS scam?

Upon receipt of a SMS, do look out for possible tell-tale signs of a spoofed SMS: (1) dubious message that often sounds too good to be true, (2) incorrect URL link, and (3) presence of a link (MINDEF/SAF no longer sends clickable links in SMSes.
