I see a term "G6PD" in eHealth. What is G6PD and what does it mean to me?

G6PD is an enzyme in our bodies that is normally responsible for breaking down some types of chemical compounds, such as medicines. There is a small group of people who are born without the G6PD enzyme, and hence cannot break down some of the commonly-prescribed medicines, such as some malaria drugs. It is important that this is brought to the attention of our medical personnel, so that different types of medication can be given. This is be reflected as "G6PD: Deficient" in eHealth. Conversely, "G6PD: Present" is the normal test result for those with G6PD enzyme.
