Why is there a difference between the National Physical fitness and Claims Award (NAPFA) test and Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT)?
The NAPFA test and Individual Physical Proficiency Test (IPPT) serve different purposes. The NAPFA test, mandated by the Ministry of Education (MOE), aims to provide a comprehensive assessment of students' overall health and performance-related fitness. It consists of six stations to evaluate various aspects of physical fitness. On the other hand, the IPPT is designed specifically for pre-enlistees in the SAF. Meeting the IPPT Pass standard in the new three-station format indicates that pre-enlistees are sufficiently physically fit to be exempted from the Physical Training Phase (PTP) and proceed directly to Basic Training. The SAF has a comprehensive combat fitness regime that includes the IPPT, route marches, field exercises, as well as obstacle courses and vocation-related exercises.
