A base NS Pay of $1,600 per month will be paid to ensure NSmen are adequately compensated when they attend ORNS activities. If your civilian income is below the base NS Pay amount, you will receive the base NS Pay pro-rated based on the duration of your ORNS activity. MINDEF/MHA will pay you a top-up to the base NS Pay, which is the difference between the base NS Pay and your civilian income loss. This is reflected as "NS Top-up" on the Payment History page under the NSmen Payments eService. If your company is under the DIRECT* scheme, MINDEF will credit the NS top-up amount to your bank account, while your company will continue to pay you your regular salary. If your company is not under the DIRECT scheme, MINDEF will credit the base NS Pay to your bank account. If your foregone civilian income is above the base NS pay amount, you will be paid according to your civilian income. The base NS pay is not applicable for IPPT, NS FIT and mobilisation. *DIRECT stands for "Direct Reimbursement to Employers of Claims for NS Training". NSmen whose employers are registered with the DIRECT scheme will continue receiving pay from their employers, and MINDEF then reimburses their employers. Employers may register for the DIRECT scheme via OneNS.
