Is music allowed at Thaipusam?
Yes, music is allowed at Thaipusam but only in a controlled and authorised manner. Restrictions on the playing of musical instruments along the route are necessary to maintain public order and safety, ensure a smooth and orderly procession, and minimise inconvenience to the public.
More music points have been provided for along the Thaipusam procession route over the years, in response to devotees’ feedback for a richer and more meaningful event. The static music transmission network has expanded from two points in 2012 to 24 points in 2026, approximately one in every 130m. In addition, since 2016 (except during the COVID-19 period), at least three live music points have been permitted along the procession route.
