Updated by MHA The CL(TP)A is a powerful piece of legislation that allows for the executive detention of persons without trial. Under the CL(TP)A, the Minister for Home Affairs may make a detention order or a police supervision order against any person who is associated with activities of a criminal nature, if the Minister is satisfied that this is necessary in the interests of public safety, peace and good order.
Generally, the CL(TP)A has been invoked against persons involved in criminal activities such as participation in secret societies, syndicated crimes, drug trafficking and unlicensed money lending.
The CL(TP)A is an essential and critical tool in Singapore’s fight against secret societies and organised criminal syndicates, and the powers under the Act are integral to taking swift and effective action to suppress such activities in Singapore. Contact us
