Updated by MHA Violence and harassment against any person, including LGBT persons, are not acceptable. Appropriate action can be taken against offenders under the Protection from Harassment Act (POHA), Penal Code or the Maintenance of Religious Harmony Act (MRHA).
POHA contains a range of civil and criminal measures to protect all victims from offences involving harassment, alarm or distress caused by using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour.
Further protection is offered under the Penal Code which criminalises acts involving hurt, criminal intimidation and incitement of violence;the MRHA which makes it an offence to urge violence on the grounds of religion or religious belief against any person or group, including the LGBT community.
