Updated by JPJC SDL Day is integrated into the curriculum and set aside for students to manage their own learning. Instead of attending regular lessons, students decide what, when, and how to study, complete assignments, or explore personal interests. The aim is to develop time management, responsibility, and independent learning skills, preparing students for university and work life, where no one constantly tells them what to do.
Parents are encouraged to check in with their children without micromanaging. Ask, “What do you want to achieve today?” rather than telling them exactly what to do, and celebrate small wins to reinforce self-motivation. Parents may also share positive examples of how fellow college-mates use SDL day for student-initiated learning activity to develop cognitive competencies such as critical thinking, inventiveness, and problem-solving through proactive learning.
