Updated by IRAS Property tax is payable in advance in the month of January. If the sale completion of your property is in the year 2026, you are required to pay the whole year tax. During the sale completion, the HDB officer or your lawyer will apportion the tax liability between you and the buyer, so that you will be reimbursed accordingly.
The apportionment of property tax liabilities is a private arrangement between the seller and buyer. The HDB officers (for HDB flats) or your lawyer would usually assist you in apportioning the tax amount and in seeking the reimbursement from the buyer. IRAS does not apportion nor arbitrate property tax liabilities between the parties.
Please check with the HDB officers (for HDB flats) or your lawyer regarding your property tax obligations for the year. Contact us
