Must I apply for a trade mark in Singapore before seeking protection overseas?

Updated by IPOS

It is not mandatory to apply for a trade mark in Singapore before seeking protection overseas. However, if you wish to seek protection for your trade mark overseas using the Protocol Relating to the Madrid Agreement Concerning the International Registration of Marks, an application of the trade mark must first be filed in the country of origin.
