How do I obtain patent protection overseas?

Updated by IPOS
Patent protection is territorial in nature. Separate applications will have to be made in each of the country where patent protection is desired. To obtain patent protection overseas, it is necessary to file applications in the countries concerned either individually or through the Patent Co-operation Treaty (PCT) which is an international treaty to facilitate the filing of patent applications in different countries concurrently. If you are residing in Singapore and plan to apply for a patent outside of Singapore first, you need to obtain a written authorisation from IPOS for national security clearance before doing so.
