If I had previously received Zostavax, why am I still recommended to receive Shingrix?

If you had previously received Zostavax, you may receive Shingrix to increase your protection against shingles and its complications, as the effectiveness of Zostavax wanes over time. Shingrix is more effective and offers longer-lasting protection against shingles.

Under the NAIS, eligible individuals who previously received Zostavax are recommended to be vaccinated with a single course of Shingrix (two doses) at least five years after vaccination with Zostavax. This interval between doses of Zostavax and Shingrix can be shortened to one year for adults aged 70 years and above, due to the lower efficacy of Zostavax in this age group.
