Who are "immunocompromised"? Which medical conditions qualify as "immunocompromised"? Are there any groups who should not be vaccinated with Shingrix?
Immunocompromised conditions refer to (a) primary or acquired immunodeficiency; and (b) iatrogenic immunosuppression.
Examples (non-exhaustive) of primary or acquired immunodeficiency conditions include acute and chronic leukaemias, chronic lymphoproliferative disorders, HIV infection (in advanced state/untreated), allogenic or autologous stem cell transplant in the previous 24 months, stem cell transplant more than 24 months ago with ongoing immunosuppression or graft versus host disease, and primary or acquired cellular and combined immune deficiencies.
Examples (non-exhaustive) of iatrogenic immunosuppression include individuals who are receiving or have received in the previous 6 months immunosuppressive therapy or medications for any indication such as cancer, solid organ transplant, and chronic immune-mediated inflammatory disease.
Individuals allergic / with hypersensitivity to the active substances or to any component of the vaccine should not receive the vaccine.
Individuals should consult a doctor about their suitability to receive the vaccine and eligibility for subsidised vaccination.
