My landlord did not register me as an authorised tenant, despite many reminders. What should I do?

If you are renting the whole flat, before moving into the flat, you should ensure that the flat owner has HDB’s approval to rent out the flat/ bedroom to you. You can ask the flat owner to show you a copy of HDB’s approval letter.

Before signing any rental agreement with the flat owner, you are advised to read the rental agreement terms carefully and ensure that you understand and agree with the terms. To protect your interest, you may also include a clause in the rental agreement that the contract is valid only if the flat owner obtains HDB’s approval to rent out the whole flat/ bedroom with HDB.

If you have concerns about the flat owner’s eligibility to rent out his flat/ bedroom to you, you may consider terminating the rental agreement, in accordance with the terms. As the rental agreement is a private arrangement between you and the flat owner, HDB is not in a position to mediate if there is a dispute on matters regarding the rental agreement.
