Preschools have in place measures to minimise the risk of transmission of infectious diseases (e.g. mpox, hand foot and mouth disease). These include health screenings for children/staff/visitors at arrival, ensuring good personal hygiene practices among children and staff, and carrying out regular cleaning and disinfection of premises. Staff and children who are unwell will not be allowed to enter the premises and can only return when they have fully recovered. 

Preschools are reminded to be vigilant and maintain high standards of personal and environmental hygiene. During an outbreak of infectious disease, preschools must:

• Temporarily remove and disinfect soft furnishings that may habour pathogens (e.g. hanging fabrics, soft toys, carpets, cushions)

• Temporarily cease using toys that cannot be effectively cleaned, such as those that absorb water or would be damaged by immersion (e.g. puzzles, activity books)

• Only reintroduce these items after the infectious disease is no longer present in the preschool.
