Updated by ECDA

ECDA has worked with operators on a set of Industry Standards to lay out best practices for the sector, with the focus on safety and well-being of infants. It outlines the operators’ and childminders’ obligations in carrying out their responsibilities and will cover standards which include but are not limited to the provisions of service, health and safety, and communications. Appointed operators are also required to establish clear incident management protocols to ensure that all disputes, feedback and incidents are handled in a timely, fair and transparent manner.

ECDA will conduct background checks on childminders, including checks on whether childminders have any criminal history, such as child-related offences. Background checks will also be extended to those who will have regular access to the homes (e.g., family members) for services conducted in childminders’ homes.
