Will ECDA look into lowering the current staff child ratios?
Staffing Matters
ECDA’s requirement on staff-child ratios are the minimum requirements for licenced operations, considering the needs of children at different ages as well as manpower resourcing. We not only consider the minimum number of staff who need to be present, but also their qualifications, to ensure that educators are sufficiently equipped with professional skills and knowledge to deliver the curriculum and engage children meaningfully in preschools. While a smaller ratio is always welcomed by parents, we are mindful of its impact on overall manpower demand and availability of services in the sector. ECDA will continue to review our policies and initiatives to better support both our children and preschools.
