I want to import a newly released brand of mini cigars from Cuba. What are the procedures required?
The importation of cigars into Singapore is subject to duty and GST.
GST is payable at the prevailing rate of the sum of the Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) value and excise duty.
The imported cigars have to be bonded in a licensed warehouse registered with Singapore Customs. A sample has to be extracted for test weighing by Singapore Customs before the duty and GST can be paid to release the goods for local consumption.
You may engage a freight forwarder registered with Singapore Customs to apply for the payment permit. Please ensure that the health warning labels are indicated on the packaging of the cigars.
