What permit should I apply to import a vintage car?

Updated by CUSTOMS
The importation of a vintage car is exempted from excise duty, but GST is still payable, subject to the following conditions:
  • Must be pre-1940 models;
  • Must be given additional registration fee (ARF) exemption by the Land Transport Authority (LTA);
  • Must not be registered for use on public roads; and
  • Must not be re-sold in Singapore or disposed in any manner without approval from Singapore Customs.
For our assessment of your eligibility for duty exemption, you are required to submit a cover letter stating the purpose of the request together with certification from LTA that the car is exempted from payment of Additional Registration Fee (ARF) and all supporting documents (i.e. commercial invoices, Bill of Lading (B/L), etc).

Upon approval, you may obtain an In-Payment (GST including duty exemption) permit with the "Place of Receipt Code" field declared as "VEHVIN".

Claimant information is required to be filled in the permit application.
