I am importing some Investment Precious Metals (IPM) into Singapore. Do I have to obtain a Customs exemption permit for clearance to enjoy GST exemption for IPM?
Depending on the mode of import, you are to obtain a Customs In-Non Payment (GST Relief) permit prior to the importation of Investment Precious Metals (IPMs) into Singapore. For IPMs imported via airfreight, you are required to obtain an inward exemption permit if the Cost, Insurance and Freight (CIF) value of the IPMs exceeds S$400. For IPMs imported via land or sea freight, you are required to obtain an exemption permit regardless of the value of the IPMs. However, if IPMs are imported as trade samples, no permit is required if the total CIF value of the IPMs does not exceed S$400. For import via parcel post, you do not have to obtain an exemption permit. For more information on import permit requirements for IPMs, you may refer to here.
