Why is the Matched MediSave Scheme targeted at those aged 55 to 70?
The Matched MediSave Scheme (MMSS) is targeted at Singapore Citizens aged 55 to 70 (inclusive) as they have a relatively short runway to save for their healthcare needs. MMSS helps to boost their MediSave savings by matching voluntary cash top-ups made to their MediSave Account (MA).
For those who are younger and have a longer runway to build their healthcare savings, the Government provides various other supports such as tax relief on voluntary cash top-ups to the MA. This also helps to boost MediSave savings, allowing members to benefit from compound interest.
Seniors aged 71 and above are already eligible for significant healthcare benefits offered under the Pioneer Generation and Merdeka Generation Packages, such as MediShield Life premium subsidies and outpatient care subsidies.
