Why do my Projected MediSave Savings differ when comparing MediShield Life (Projection 1) versus Integrated Shield Plan (Projection 2) and Integrated Shield Plan with Rider (Projection 3)?
Your Cumulative MediSave Savings are calculated differently based on your insurance coverage choices. If you have an existing Integrated Shield Plan (IP) with rider, the planner will show you three scenarios:
1. Projection 1: MediShield Life only
2. Projection 2: Existing IP
3. Projection 3: Existing IP with rider
Your Cumulative MediSave Savings include your current MediSave Account balance plus projected inflows for up to 30 years or age 90 (whichever comes first), rounded to the nearest decade (e.g., 50, 60, or 70).
The differences between Projection 1 and Projection 2 can arise for two reasons. When your MediSave reaches the Basic Healthcare Sum (BHS), paying IP premiums creates room for additional MediSave contributions, potentially increasing your savings. However, these higher premium payments can also reduce your MediSave balance and earned interest, potentially decreasing your savings. These effects can happen at the same time, and their overall impact depends on your specific circumstances.
The projections for IP with and without riders show the same MediSave savings because rider premiums cannot be paid using MediSave.
