Why is my Workfare Income Supplement so low even though I am earning close to the qualifying wage cap?
The Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) benefits are designed to taper gradually as a worker's income approaches the qualifying wage cap. This ensures that workers who increase their income – whether through skills upgrading or moving to better paying jobs do not experience a sudden drop in benefits. Taken together, as income rises, a worker’s overall take home income (including WIS) continues to increase, even as the WIS benefits taper.
