Allowances received for family support roles such as babysitting or caregiving for dependants are considered transfers within the family rather than income from employment. As they are not external sources of income, they do not qualify for the Workfare Income Supplement (WIS) scheme.

 

The Government recognises the importance of family support roles. To support these roles, it provides assistance through schemes like the Marriage and Parenthood package which helps couples raise and care for their children.

 

Employees or self-employed persons who are also caregivers may qualify for concessionary WIS, even if they earn less than $500. This generally include those living with care recipients who have permanent moderate to severe disabilities. For more information, please refer to our FAQ.
