Why are MediSave withdrawal limits imposed?
MediSave is used to pay for a wide range of expenses, including health insurance premiums, hospitalisation, day surgery and outpatient bills like chemotherapy and dialysis.
To ensure that Singaporeans have sufficient savings in their MediSave Account for their basic healthcare needs in old age, MediSave withdrawal limits have been carefully set to strike a balance between the affordability of current treatments and future healthcare needs. These limits, after taking into account Government subsidies and applicable MediShield Life payouts, are generally adequate to cover most of the charges incurred at subsidised inpatient wards and outpatient treatments.
The Ministry of Health reviews the MediSave withdrawal limits from time to time to ensure that they remain relevant to healthcare costs and Singaporeans’ needs.
