I am a Board Member/ Director. Am I considered a self-employed person, and do I have to contribute to my CPF?

It depends on the nature of your relationship with the company, and the nature of the moneys received.

If you’re engaged as a Board Member or Director under a contract of employment (or Contract of Service) with the company, you’ll have to contribute to your CPF as an employee.

If you’re engaged in a business, profession or vocation of providing services as a Board Member or Director to companies, you’ll have to contribute to your MediSave as a self-employed person (SEP).

Please visit the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore (IRAS) website for the differences in treatment between employees and SEPs.
