Can I fly a kite or operate a parasail in areas within the vicinity of an airport or airbase?
When flown or operated within 5km of an airport or an airbase, kites and parasails may distract pilots while they are operating the aircraft. Furthermore, if aircraft engines ingest these items, they can cause engine damage and endanger lives. Thus, the conduct of these activities within 5km of an airport or an airbase is not allowed unless a permit has been obtained from CAAS. Applications for such a permit will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. However, you may fly a kite or operate a parasail outside 5km of any airport or airbase no higher than 200 feet above mean sea level. Otherwise, the following requirements must be met:
Area | Height | Requirement |
Within 5km of any airport or airbase | Height limit subject to safety assessment | Permit from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) required |
Outside 5km of any airport or airbase | Higher than 200 feet above mean sea level | Permit from the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) required |
