Who’s covered under CareShield Life?
All Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents are eligible to join, but when you can join depends on the year you were born.
Born in 1980 or after
Automatically covered once you turn 30
You’re automatically covered once you turn 30, or from 1 October 2020, whichever is later, regardless of any pre-existing medical conditions and/or disability.
If you were born in 1990 or later, we’ll write to you with more information about two months before your 30th birthday.
Born in 1979 or earlier
Optional participation
Your participation in CareShield Life is optional^.
If you were born between 1970 and 1979, insured under ElderShield 400, and have not developed severe disability, you had been automatically enrolled into CareShield Life from 1 December 2021. No action is required if you wish to join CareShield Life.
If you were not automatically enrolled and wish to join CareShield Life, you may access the Application to join CareShield Life e-Service with your Singpass and enjoy a 60-day free-look period.
^ Except foreigners who become Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents from 1 October 2020 onwards, for whom participation is mandatory, provided they do not have severe disability (if granted residency status from 1 October 2020 to 31 December 2025) or any disability (if granted residency status from 1 January 2026 onwards).
