How to qualify

 

There are a few criteria your loved one will need to meet to qualify for SMF.

 

Criteria

Description

Care recipient’s nationality

He/ she must be a Singapore Citizen or PR.

 

Care recipient’s age

He/ she must be aged 60 or older.

Care recipient’s residence

He/ she must not live in a nursing home or MSF home.

Care recipient’s needs

  • An approved healthcare professional (such as a fully registered therapist, registered nurse, doctor, optometrist or certified audiologist) must assess the type of equipment he/ she requires.

  • He/ she may be notified to go for further assessments. These can take place at a centre or at home.

  • You will need to pay the assessment fee. This ranges between $10 and $350 depending on your subsidy tier.

Care recipient’s household income

He/ she must meet the mean-test criteria for SMF:

If applying for subsidies for motorised devices

In addition to the above, the care recipient must:

  • Not have a full-time caregiver or domestic helper to care for him/ her.

  • Be unable to use a manual wheelchair on his/ her own.

  • Be assessed to be mentally and physically able to use the motorised device safely.
