There is no longer a need to surrender the deceased’s NRIC for physical invalidation. The deceased’s NRIC will be automatically invalidated in ICA’s system once the death is registered. To prevent misuse, you may either destroy the invalidated NRIC, or punch a hole in it.The use of another person’s NRIC is an offence under the National Registration Act, which carries a penalty of a fine not exceeding $10,000, or imprisonment for a term not exceeding 10 years, or both.
After the doctor certifies the death online, you can visit My Legacy website to download the digital death certificate. To access and download the digital death certificate, you will require the following information from the certifying doctor or hospital: • Death certificate number (or Confirmation of Death document number) • Deceased’s Identification Document number • Deceased’s date of death

Death certificates issued after 29 May 2022 are in digital format. Death certificates issued before this date remain valid and will not be converted into digital format.
The Confirmation of Death is only a temporary document. You should download the digital death certificate at My Legacy website, following online death certification by the doctor. To do so, you will need to make use of the following information from the Confirmation of Death: Confirmation of Death Number, Deceased's ID Number and Date of Death.
There is no limit to the number of persons who can download, but there is a 30-day limit from the date of death to download the certificate from My Legacy website. You should save a copy in your personal device when downloading the certificate.

You may contact National Environment Agency at 6225 5632 for assistance if you encounter difficulty using the Confirmation of Death document to apply for the Permit to Bury/Cremate.
You may contact the certifying doctor/hospital to confirm if the death information has been submitted online and to obtain the Death Certificate Number from him. You may then use the Death Certificate Number to download the digital certificate from My Legacy.
If it is within 30 days from the date of death, you can request the certifying doctor or hospital for the information. If it is more than 30 days from the date of death, you may email ICA at ICA_DPU_RBD@ica.gov.sg for assistance.
The death certificate issued earlier is no longer valid. If a copy has been stored in your personal device, please delete it and cease using it for any transaction.
It is a temporary document issued by the doctor in lieu of a death certificate during system downtime, or when the next-of-kin does not have digital access to download the digital certificate.
This document is accepted by NEA and Town Councils for funeral, burial or cremation related applications.
