How can we monitor our child's emotional needs, and what areas should we focus on?
Observe whether the child is sensitive to certain types of remarks and jokes, has difficulties expressing themselves in a group setting, and frequently feels anxious, sad, or angry.
Do routine check-ins with the child on coping in class, whether they have made friends, and what they like or dislike about the school.
Observe the child's body language/facial expression, e.g., do they appear lethargic, gloomy, sad, anxious, impatient, spaced out, etc.
Observe their language, which tends to be negative, critical or morbid.
RED FLAG:
Appetite Changes: Have you noticed any alterations in their eating habits?
Sleep Patterns: Is your child experiencing disruptions in their sleep, such as sleeping more than usual or having difficulty sleeping?
Mood Changes: Are there noticeable shifts in your child's mood, such as increased sadness, frequent crying, anger outbursts, or becoming easily agitated?
