How does PTC track fare affordability and how does it determine that fares remain affordable?
PTC ensures fare affordability by keeping a close watch over the Public Transport Affordability Indicator (PTAI), which measures the proportion of monthly household income spent on public transport. PTC also gathers public sentiments on affordability through engagement sessions and surveys.
From 2014 to 2023, the lower income commuter group (represented by the second decile income group households) and the average public transport commuter (represented by the second quintile income group households) spent 2.4% and 1.7% respectively of their monthly household income on public transport on average. The PTAI for 2024 is expected to be similar to 2023 with the fare revision.
