If I sign a tenancy agreement with a landlord for room rental, do I need to pay for stamp duty?
Stamp duty is a tax on documents (physical or electronic) relating to immovable properties, stocks, and shares.
Therefore, if a tenancy agreement is executed for room rental, stamping will be required for the relevant document, and lease duty is payable.
Lease duty is computed based on the contractual rent or market rent, whichever is higher, at a rate of 0.4%.
