[Born in 1980 or later]

Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents born in 1980 or later, will be automatically covered under CareShield Life from 1 October 2020, or when they turn 30, whichever is later.

[Born in 1979 or earlier]

Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents born in 1979 or earlier, can choose to join CareShield Life from end-2021 if they are not severely disabled.

To make joining CareShield Life more convenient, Singapore Citizens and Permanent Residents born between 1970 and 1979 (i.e. aged 41 to 50 in 2020) will be auto-enrolled in CareShield Life from end-2021, if they are insured under the ElderShield 400 scheme and are not severely disabled at the point of auto-enrolment. If you are auto-enrolled, you can opt out of CareShield Life by 31 Dec 2023 if you do not wish to join the scheme. Should you opt out CareShield Life, your full premiums will be refunded and your ElderShield policy, if you had one before joining CareShield Life, will continue to protect you.

The Government will make use of existing data from the insurers and the Agency for Integrated Care (AIC) on current claimants from ElderShield/current recipients of disability grant schemes, to determine who is already severely disabled. You may be asked to go for a disability assessment before you are auto-enrolled if our existing data indicates you may have a severe disability, but you are not claiming from ElderShield.
